Rugby74
Can anyone recommend where I may take a First Responder Course in the Atlanta area? Would the Red Cross Emergency Response Course suffice (if they ever offer it around here), or are there more reputable and advanced agencies/places that teach it? Dustdevil
Would the Red Cross Emergency Response Course suffice ...? Suffice for what? What exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to fulfil the requirements for a particular job or school? Or are you just trying to get some training and knowledge for non-professional use (Boy Scouts, hunting, etc...)? If you are trying to prepare for a particular career, let us know so that we can advise you accordingly.
Rugby74
It is not for a job. I want it for personal knowledge. I may seek a career in the EMS field later, but I want to start with a basic First Responder course and get on a local CERT team. The Red Cross doesn't offer their course now, and I can't find any training online.

Rugby74
Thank you for the responses! I am going to take CPR from the AHAA, and then take a First Responder Course. I will then take A&P, Microbiology, Chemistry, Psychology, etc...from the local college. I want to get the basics/sciences knowledge down before I dive further into the EMS field. Stick with that mindset, and don't get distracted by all the whackers and their shortcuts. Do it right. Do it the best you can do. Be the best you can be. You're likely to blow away 99 percent of the providers in this country.
WolfmanHarris
I'm impressed. Way too often people come on here looking for the quickest way to get into EMS. Good on ya for doing it right. All those extra steps will pay off big time and make you a far better provider.
Dustdevil
Way too often people come on here looking for the quickest way to get into EMS. Luckily for Rugby74, he was born and raised before Generation X, who holds "it's all about ME" above all else as their guiding principle in life. Not that we don't see our share of thirty and forty-somethings doing the same thing. More often it has to do with the image of EMS, and the low quality of people that are naturally attracted to that image, than it does with the generation of the prospective student. WolfmanHarris
I might take the age thing personally if you weren't bang on in the majority of the cases.
