Seriously, crotchity, you obviously didn't read my posts thoroughly, you pulled the *classic* and ever so popular move of selective reading by pulling out that one snippet where I said I don't care what someone does in the bathroom. Is it unprofessional to go into the bathroom with a camping stove and saute liver'n'onions? Yeah, I think so, but I'm not going to barge in and see WTF is taking you so long in there. That's all I was indicating. I think if you need to go masturbate at work, you forgot to bring something to keep yourself occupied, and you must be of lower intelligence so that's your automatic entertainment default.

Sex at the station vs sex in the ambulance vs sex in the hose-bed... all seems to fall into the same category for many people mentally. Take a good long while to *think* about why that is. If you think there's a difference, by all means, show us. I don't think there is... I think it's *all* unprofessional and stupid. Just different levels of exhibitionism that have no place in the workplace.

No one is saying that someone who was dumb enough to get their jollies at work is a bad person and automatically needs to be banned from EMS... what we're trying to flippin' say is that the ATTITUDE that you so clearly display of CONDONING and even ENCOURAGING nookie at work is UNPROFESSIONAL AND AN ATTITUDE THAT WILL HURT OUR PROFESSION. Is that clear enough? Do I need bigger font?

*EVERY* person that we respect on the personal or professional level has screwed up and done something really stupid in their lives. We're all human. Screwing up when you're 18 and a new EMT and getting it on with your gf or your partner is a STUPID mistake. If it doesn't become a pattern, or one becomes aware of the ramifications that such actions can and eventually will have on your employment, AKA learns from the experience, one grows as a person and knows better than to condone such action in oneself or others.

You're full of it, dude. You're not sorry that you've "upset someone by shining the light on something in our industry that *WE* are not proud of" you're pissed because people are countering your avowed approval of nookie at work with DISAPPROVAL and the statement that it is UNPROFESSIONAL. You're mad because we don't agree with you. And obviously, you don't want to "clean up our own backyard first" or you'd open your eyes and realize that multiple providers from different geographical areas and working environments have all stepped up to the plate and said NO, sex at work is NOT ok, regardless of the fact that it happens.

You're sitting here clinging to the good ol' boy mentality that as long as the station's good and you're cool enough to be able to get your clothes back on in time to do a call, you should be able to boink whoever you want, whenever you want. That is CLEARLY your attitude towards sex in the workplace.

As far as that thread that the other troll started goes, if you actually did more than skim the posts you'd remember that there was mostly a spirited debate about WHAT CONSTITUTES PORN. I don't remember anyone worth a damn advocating stopping by "Dr. John's Videoplex" on the way back to the station to pick up the evening's entertainment.

This was a long speak although for me (maybe cause I'm swiss...we're know for being slow;) ) i can't still follow you're point of how something none else as the two "participant" knows (and I assume that.... everything else is dumb, yes) could hurt the our profession.

Okay, the follow up "relation or not" trouble could hurt the working enviroment...But this happens everywhere where men and women work together....

EMS is a small community. In most areas, everybody knows somebody. It is hard to keep secrets.

Those that have posted on a public forum probably will brag about it in other places and to other people as well.

The bed you sleep in may have had many sexual partners on it. Not all are going to be neat freaks and clean up after themselves. The same for the ambulance. The public might not be too wild to learn the stretcher was just used by the two EMS providers for sex.

Some may view others at the same station as also being participants in sexual relations as quilt by association or view them as unprofessionals for allowing it to occur.

It may not show well for your future advancement with a company if the management learns of your activity even if it was just one time. Management is not always stupid and they will find out.

Even if they don't counsel you, they may still quietly make note of it and will probably not put you in a position of responsibility where you can abuse their trust.

Those of us who have been around for awhile do know this happens and also know that it rarely has a favorable outcome. When the relationship fails, one of the partners may have to be transferred or will quit. If the management finds out first, it may be an automatic dismissal for both. If the public finds out it may even make headlines similar to the one last year in Washington DC even it is not the same situation. It might be up to the parties involved to prove otherwise. In the meantime their reputation and that of their company is tarnished.

I can not believe we are still feeding a 10th grade mentality.

The Point is: The examples you brought are clearly unprofessional, I agree to you.

But:

1. Rumors: Do also occur when i.e. an crew meets an staff member in an gay-club, strip club, the headquarter of a sect, where he is "first aiding" before the ambulance arrives.... just for example... Did the staff member do anything unprofessional? I would say no... Unprofessional are the people that create the rumors...

2. Hygienic aspects: Not cleaning the sheets of the bunk bed is always unprofessional and uncooperatively.... No matter if you had sex or not...

3. The aspect of how fast you can get to your rig: Thats a big point... Don't know the rules overseas but for us its normal to sleep only your shirt and boxers on in your room during shift.... Dunno if its the same in the US EMS.... In case you're required to sleep in full uniform of course there might be an time advantage....

I would not blame the people for having sex while on duty... I don't care...I would blame them for being unprofessional or/and dumb enough to let other people know,etc....

Thats the true point....People are in (99% of the cases) to dumb to follow those rules....

But: In the case none knows, I'm not affect by what they do (no matter if its the unhygienic bunk bed, the longer time they need to take the call they should safe my life...) I'm simply not interested in what other people might do or not...

I beg to differ with your statistical analysis. You can only go by how many who have honestly answered the poll, not the number of readers of the poll (only votes count).

As of this morning the count was 21 yes to 25 no's -- which means that 45% of respondents have (which is pretty close to half). So are nearly half of all EMS workers unprofessional ? And before you say 46 respondents can not speak for all of EMS, statistically it is probably accurate, as this poll was asked of a broad cross-section of EMS workers in many countries/states, so it is probably very accurate. If I had only asked 46 people from one EMS company, or one state, or only polled 911 or only private companies, an arguement could be made that the numbers might be inaccurate.
