firedoc5 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 For me and puke, it wasn't necessarily the smell (depending on what it consisted of), but the sounds related to it. Like splattering and the sounds the pt. makes. We had a near drowning victim in the back. She was resting comfortably, at first. But then she started puking up water. I was OK with it until she heaved hard enough to hit the roof of the cabin. That splattering and then having puke rain down on us was a real challenge in keeping it down ourselves.
crotchitymedic1986 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Just a note, the two worst smells in my opinion: 1. A cancerous tumor that has burst open (usually bleeds alot too). 2. Feces that has been vomited up through the mouth due to severe impaction. I think it is worse than burnt or rotting bodies, but others may disagree. If you are going to any of those calls, just put the whole bottle of vicks up both nostrils.
spenac Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 , just put the whole bottle of vicks up both nostrils. Should they open the bottles first?
Christopher.Collins Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Should they open the bottles first? 1) Open bottles 2) Insert one bottle into each nostril bottom end first 3) Assume nasty discharge position
sirduke Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 During a "dead body" call, I had nothing but a HEPA mask and some green hand sanitizer, smeared it in the mask and went in, didn't smell the body, but ended up with a nasty headache and a buzz. Don't recommend that one.

crotchitymedic1986 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I note the sarcasm, but I was referring to the little bottles of vicks that have vicks jell in them, not the vicks tubes that fit comfortably in the nasal canal. These bottles tend to last longer, and you can glob a bunch of vicksgel in each nostril versus just taking a hit off of the tubes.
