Boozy Britain's bloody New Year: A 999 call every seven seconds in alcohol-induced mayhem

Violence scarred celebrations and led to a bloody New Year across the country as emergency services endured a chaotic end to 2008.

Ambulance control centres reported receiving 999 calls as often as once every seven seconds - the second highest volume of calls since the Millennium - as binge drinkers turned nasty in the freezing temperatures.

Many of the calls related either to alcohol-fuelled assaults or excessive drunkenness.

Booze contributed to time-wasting calls to 999 operators too, with one man calling to ask if New York was in America, and what time it was there.

Don't click unless you can handle pictures of blood and heavy girls not wearing enough clothing.

You know some of us just had to click on that link. Too tempting not to. Seems like a good time was had by all. It's just that that kind of a good time has it's draw backs and pay backs.

Even though their 999 system was probably stretched to it's limits, it looks like there were adequate police in some of the pics. I wonder how many of them caused some of the bloodied up party goers.

True story: While on deployment I stumbled upon a group of British soldiers playing a drinking game called "Poke the Brownie." This consisted of taking a shot of alcohol and then trying to plant your nose in the butt cheeks of you comrades ass. I never did understand the object of that game, don't believe they did either. Anyway, ever since then, I never underestimate the propensity of a bunch of drunken Brits. I do love the way they talk though!
