So I was just in refersher and they did a great presentation by (Col. John Holcomb i think), on Traumatic injuries and the use of tourniquets.

He was the trauma doc in Solmalia and did several tours in Iraq... He and his research team advocates the use of tourniquets for many extremity injuries..

Anyway, I was unable to find it on the NREMT.org, but according to one of the instructors the NEW NREMT Bleeding control skills sheet now has a tourniquet as the #2 treatment after direct pressure does not work....

Fascinating, we in EMS have now come full circle.

Yup they changed it and some students already using skill sheets they printed in Jan went in and failed bleeding control station as they said elevate. NREMT needs to be better about posting major changes and also should have a time frame where either sheet will work.

Actually, that is the state's fault NOT the NREMT. Remember, NREMT does not really have a practical testing at the basic level, only recommendations of the stations. They recommend or allow the states to utilize their skills list. For advanced level, they gave a specific date when this was to be implemented. I still say .. probably the state's fault if they prematurely used it or did not disperse it.

I started in 1973, and while I like that term, this posting was the first time I had seen or heard that one.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
