never took the time to watch the video, but i have a sneaking suspicion whatever it is,or what people say is "brutality" is probably well deserved. chances are, if the cops are beating your ass you deserve it. I dont know any cops who randomly just beat people up and hide behind the badge,in all sincerity.

She assualted the officer and was placed on the ground.

I'm pretty comfortable with using strong force when being assaulted, but in this instance (as best one can tell from camera angle), the assault was over. She kicked her show off at low trajectory while standing inside the jail cell and not poised to leap out. Officer would have easily closed the door.

The take-down was not a simple one, it was slamming her into the wall. Also, seems that while prone, she received closed-fist punches to head or neck area. In addition to being yanked to ground by hair (after being slammed against wall, in a position where she could drop to ground because of toilet and quite frankly speed of the officer), she was picked up by her hair after being handcuffed and not significantly resisting.

Also, take into consideration you can assume she had been thoroughly searched (weapons should be a problem), she wasn't of significant size/strength, two officers present, and backup probably close by.

Now, having said that, who knows what wasn't on video, she could have produced a lethal weapon out of view of camera, and I would probably have responded in same fashion. But realistically, precipitating event seemed to have been the shoe tossing.

She assualted the officer...

Technically maybe, but aren't cops supposed to handle this a little bit better?

... and was placed on the ground.

She got the @#*$ beaten out of her by being thrown around by her hair and punched in the head several times.

Not cool .... not even cool when you consider we deal with people KO'd by bouncers and door staff who were being jagoff's and deserved getting smacked over.

I mean hell I've felt like flipping out and going animal on some people who pissed me off but pffffffft, this was hardly appropriate.

it doesn't make me want to attack her. It makes me want the police to do it for me.

With the camera running? She might agree with you!

They should have called the jail's Special Response Team and then she could have had something to whine about after she recovered from the tear gas. These officers should have probably had a 3rd officer recording the conversation that took place between the inmate and them. They actually may have had another camera running which will show this from a totally different view along with voice recordings that will later be presented in their defense. It they verbalized everything correctly to her and she continued to make threats against them or herself, it was their duty to control the situation swiftly without giving her a chance to struggle. While this video may look rough to some who may not have been in a situation like this, it is not the time to do hand holding and talk sweet nothings to this inmate. It doesn't matter what her charges are and no matter how minor. Those charges may have been the ones she happened to get caught at. You treat every inmate as having the potential to harm you or themselves. Animals and people do stupid things when caged. It is every officer's responsibility to go home safely after each shift.

Doesn't make me feel like attacking anyone, but what do I know.

The best part was when the reporter said, "This is a very disturbing video." But they keep showing it over and over.

This girl is an idiot but the cop is way out of line. OK, assume every one has a weapon and is out to kill you blah blah blah. This guy is just out to use his power in any way he can. This was nothing more than an ego trip (he should have just whipped out his penis, I'm sure it wass bigger than hers and the whole thing would have been over). This little 15y/o teeny bopped mall rat flings he shoe of and this cop goes holy ape sh!t. Dude, get a life. She kicks her shoe off and has a temper tantrum. Laugh at her, close the door in her face and be done with it. If this was a parent doing this to their kid they would be hauled to jail for child abuse. Bottom line to me seems like this over testosteroned, compensating for a lack of something, grown man beat the hell out of a little girl because she kicked her shoe at him. I can just hear him with his buddies, "Dude, you should have seen the way I dropped this little girl who flung a shoe at me. Bet she won't ever assualt someone with cheap footwear again."

OK granted the girl stole a car, and got lippy with the cop Im sure, but did she deserve that particular beating, I'm not thinking so. I have been that young girl in cells and yes the RCMP took the opportunity to tell me what a horrible kid I was and how I was a disgrace to my family (my father was a dispatcher). And if you would like to know what I did wrong it was that I went and saw a boyfriend that my father didn't approve of. There is a line in our crimminal code and it states in various areas "You may use as much force as deemed nessessary". It dosn't say shove up against the wall, slam fist into head, cuff and then pick by the hair and escort out of cells. I have no disagreements of using force on anyone as long as it is fair and justified. Also I have been a RCMP guard and called what ever you can be called, kicked at ect. I nor the RCMP Officers ever did anything to that degree. These guys need some anger management training if a 16yr old girl can get them that riled up.

Last I heard the officer who did the "take down" has pleaded "Not Guilty" to assault. Personally, I think he way over-reacted and this was a classic case of "contempt of cop" syndrome. I'm all for doing what needs to be done to halt certain behavior, but there must be a line you cross to get a result like that-which is not a half-assed attempt to kick a shoe at you.
