I'm a municipal employee. "Gift" in the city's eyes is spelled "Graft".

So...

"I cannot accept your gift, but if you could write my bosses and comment how good your treatment and care was at my and my partner's hands, that would be appreciated. 'Attaboy/Attagirl' letters in our files are always a good thing."

Of course, local protocols and department rules would be the final guide, even on my suggestion.

Ok someone leaves a large some of cash or expensive gift card in an envelope with your name on it. What do you do with it since you have no way of knowing who left it?

Donate it to the local charity that might could use it.

Oh well Spen that's just my surprise birthday gift being dropped off at work by my Aunt who lives near by. ;)

Seriously, in that case I'd hand it over to management and suggest that they allow the crew to suggest a charity. Also suggest to management that they issue a press release about the donation, asking the public to send any compliments or concerns about the service to their professional standards division (or equivalent). If the county has a policy that would prohibit donating this, then I'd suggest the service use the gift for an upgrades to the crew room at the base.

I personally think that receiving gifts for doing my job is unethical. IF you INSIST on doing 'something' to show your gratitude for my services, then write a letter addressed to the Chief of Operations (or Operations Manager), and then it can be placed in my personnel file.

Monetary gifts could be made to the local charity in the crew's name, or in the name of the service.

Gift baskets, baked items and the like; contact my Chief of Operations and let management decide how it should be dealt with in accordance to company policy and guidelines.

TAKE IT, god knows privates don't make enough.

Interesting take. Is this based on an ethical standpoint of ethical egoism, or do you just have not sense of ethics whatsoever? Honestly, approaching life in this way is the cause of a great many issues and yet when this results in a lady dying on an escalator with people walking by, everyone is up and arms convinced that they'd never do that. Bullshit.

Relax homeboy, Iam just saying if I was a private medic I take the gift at hand, we tip people who cut and groom our hair for crying out loud and god knows they have more skills hours on the books then we do. I personaly can't take such a gift on duty since Iam at the will of the tax payers.
