What makes cars explode?

Just had a training by the (very good) FD of the BMW factory. They brought up a new fact in the discussion of "exploding cars":

Technically a hydrogen-oxygen fuel cell driven car might blow up very easy.

As the protypes are running thru our streets they are still trying to develope a security plan for the risks of those cars who might be very common within the next years.
