Bills that would affect Maryland State Police aviation

The following are bills being considered in the Maryland General Assembly that would affect Maryland State Police aviation.

SB 649 - Adds reimbursement of operators of private helicopter companies for costs of emergency medical transport under specified circumstances as an authorized use of money in the Maryland Emergency Medical System Operations Fund.

SB 650 - Requires the Department of Emergency Services, or the Department of General Services if legislation creating the Department of Emergency Services fails, to issue a request for proposals under state procurement law to select an entity to operate the state's helicopter fleet for emergency medical services; and requires two fleets of helicopters to operate in the state - one for emergency medical services and one for law enforcement, homeland security, search and rescue, etc.

SB 764 - Reorganizes the state government by establishing a Department of Emergency Services as a principal unit of the Executive Branch; repeals the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems and the State Emergency Medical Services Board; specifies the department is responsible for the coordination of all emergency services in the State; transfers the Maryland Emergency Management Agency; and specifies powers, duties and functions to the department, etc.
