Yes, education is somewhat genetic, in that your level of education is usually driven by your parents. If you have two college educated parents who are home to help you with your homework, and demand that you keep an A-B average, then you will probably find a smart student (most asians). But if you are the child of a single mom, who was a high school drop-out, does not value education, and is not there at night to hold you accountable, you will probably not be in top tier of your class. Sure there are a handful that always break the rule, but for the most part, what i have said is true. And if you dont understand how 300 years of discrimination hurts a race of people, then there is nothing i can say to change your mind.

My father dropped out of high school so he could help provide for his family. He went back to school 30 years later and got his G.E.D. I graduated in the top 20% of my high school. Neither of my parents are college educated, and no one is 'helping me with my schoolwork', and yet I'm still maintaining a 98% test average. I attribute this 'phenomenon' to the fact that I actually WANT to learn!

To further bolster this theory, I'm looking at how I can pick up extra classes next semester and work on a 'dual major', while still working on top of that!

Your 'genetics/ethnicity = educational drive' doesn't hold water. It's just another example of how it's far easier to sit back and cry how everything/everyone is against you, as opposed to rolling up your sleeves and actually MAKING things happen.

At this point in the discussion, you have yet to provide any imperical data to 'prove' your points of contention. All we've heard in support of your position amounts to nothing more than simple rhetoric. You're scraping the bottom of the barrel, trying to come up with 'justifications' to prove how you're being 'oppressed', and how the 'white man' OWES you. You actually have MORE opportunities now than your parents did, and yet you're still too LAZY to take advantage of them!

By making these feeble excuses, you're actually doing MORE to oppress yourself and your race than any race you're trying to blame ever did! You're actually doing more harm by standing around with your hand out, expecting it to be filled.

Want a better life than you've got now? Want more opportunities to succeed? GET OFF YOUR LAZY ASS AND MAKE IT HAPPEN!

I think we have had crotchity here long enough for him to no longer be a troll. He's like the kid on the baseball team that was always the waterboy. Persoanlly, I think he just likes to stir the pot so that people call him crocth. It must be some freaky fetish he has. ;)

ERDOC, and probably everyone else for that matter, perhaps we should pull this thread to a close? Because nothing is going to get through Crotchities head whilst he is singing his "Sing it loud, I'm black and I'm proud" theme tune. The original thread post, was talking about how the firefighters felt disadvantaged because they were black when it was plain and simple, they were lazy and didnt study. If it had been a bunch of white guys that hadn't of studied, it would have been, well, tough titties kids you didn't do your homework no reward for you.

But alas, a race card was played, and Crotchity has swiped that card many a time in this thread, not contributing anything worthwhile other than reaffirming that if you are a minority colour or race or social group, you should get everything handed to you on a silver platter as well as a payout to say "we're sorry, our ancestors screwed it up but here, you take this and this and this and we will be all happy, wanna call me honkey and cracker? sure thats ok too :D". Hey when is the Gay, Lesbian, Bi and Transgendered University opening up, I'll be the first to sign up as we are a minority society too, but all we ask for is recognition we exist, plain and simple, we don't want a pay out from the homophobes out there, we don't want a GLBT college. we want just to be recognised that being GLBT is natural and we are who we are, there is nothing wrong with feeling proud of who you are or what you are, but to expect the rest of western civilsation to pay out and you live with a mindset the world owes you.... sorry doesnt cut it for me.

This mindset you have crotchity, is exactly what keeps black people in the lower slums of living and education, you push for higher EMS standards and education, now you are arguing that your ability to learn is hindered because of slavery and your colour, so how do we trust anything you write and not expect it to be from google? Because surely remember you wrote that a black person's ability to learn and study and do well is hindered because hundreds of years of slavery so maybe your knowledge base is not what it is claimed to be. And I know you will throw some comment back at this claiming your education is not the question of topic or you gained street smarts over school learning. Yeah do they teach on the streets that if you want to get a needle in, aim for the anticubical fossa and if that fails, you can move down to the basalic vein? No you had to read and had to learn it in class. But then how do I take your ability and creditbility seriously because you claim your ability to learn has been hindered because your great great great great great grandmomma was brought over to the USA and had to cook somebodies shrimp for them.

Do you see the arguement you just created Crotchity, and you've personally to yourself, lowered creditbility of yourself and your apparent knowledge because you are ready and very fast to do so, that your ability to learn... because you are black...... has been hindered...... because of slavery....... that occured hundreds of years ago. Cry a river, build a bridge and haul your sorry ass over it!

Oh and by the way Crotchity, I like your "white" avatar ;)

Find you a quiet place: Imagine a man in his 30s. He is forced to live in a dirt floor shack with no water or airconditioning. He is not allowed to be educated, he is beaten daily, he is not allowed to go to church, his wife and teenage daughter get raped by their owners on a regular basis, his kids are split up and sold to the highest bidder, he works a 14 hour day working crops in ubearable heat, he is a prisoner every day of his life.

scroll down

now imagine that he is a WHITE man !

"Oh and by the way Crotchity, I like your "white" avatar "

Why dont you go ahead with the next line: The future is looking bright because there are no blacks on the jetsons. But I guess you have not noticed that is wasnt until after the Cosby show, that blacks were allowed to have any significant roles on television, unless they needed someone to play a criminal.

Yes snoopy is white, the main character in 99% of all media is white; but there isnt any racism there !

Who cares what color his skin is? Either way it is wrong. What does it have to do with anything?

You have no problem of accusing me of playing the race card, why dont some of you play the "truth" card ? Just answer honestly:

1. We have " __________" number of african americans at my company.

2. We have "__________" of white employees at my company.

3. We have "__________" number of african american supervisors at my company.

4. I have dated _____________ number of african americans during my lifetime.

Imagine being led into a building and gassed with the rest of your family

Imagine having your land taken away and main source of food slaughtered to the point of endangerment (native)

Imagine being born into a gang and not being allowed to leave it

Imagine being born addicted to heroin

imagine your witnessing your father abuse your mother to the point of broken bones.

Imagine having a raging abusive alcoholic father.

Imagine being the short skinny kid who was repeatedly abused and bullied at school, to the point you dropped out by grade 9, and suffered from extreme parinoia.

etc, etc,

We are all dealt different hands and we must all adapt and make the best of life.

Realize there are many people... far worse off than you (see above) who do not use thier heritage/status/recent past/illness stand in thier way of being all they can be.

This is pretty skewed... I work rural.... here are my HONEST answers.

1)0

2)16

3)0

4)0

Now for my OTHER honest answers

1)We have had 0 african american applicants

2)We have 2 african americans living in this town

3)I have 0 african american friends due to #2 (we lead a different lifestyle)

My grandson is hispanic/black. When we had the opportunity to adopt him, we were worried about whether we would be able to do the little lad justice vis a vis his ethnic heritage. We didn't care if he was purple - we wanted him. The small midwestern town where he lives has 2 black families in it. We are concerned about any racism he may experience, but we also know that as a family, we are well equipped to deal with the challenge. We love him - and will do everything in our power to ensure that he has the same opportunities as anyone else. He is being given love and taught responsibility. He is being encouraged in his interests and we make sure the lines of communication with his birth family are open. The kid has a wide open future. It tickles me that this hispanic/black kid from San Antonia is being raised in Wisconsin, and babysat often by a Canadian woman who was originally born in Finland. His Native Canadian/ white cousin visits often and one of his favorite playmates is kid born to an American woman and an Indonesian man. If he ever tells me he failed the test because he is black, I will kick his ass.
