The missile MVA was about two years ago on the Bruckner expressway late at night. I don't remember all the details but it was a fender bender. Officer asked the tractor trailer driver for the paperwork and what he was hauling; answer, tomahawk missiles. I think it was two or four. The missiles were inert (no warheads or propellent). Bomb squad, ESU and fire were called. I think the Bruckner was shut down for about an hour till everyone had a warm and fuzzy that there were not going to be any big booms. That night at least.

The pt was on the freeway side of the guardrail and was completely alert and able to move around without any difficulty, just had lots of pain in his leg.

Once moved out of the way I tell him I'm going to put this on his shoulders and neck to help stabilize his neck and spine in case there's any injuries there from things like whiplash, etc.

I must be missing something. Right?

Congrats you were first in on a refusal, not a trauma patient.

If we are talking about important tidbits now, toss the traffic vest and focus on unit staging. Do whatever it takes with whatever you have to control traffic or close the roadway.

Ah give him a break man. Clearly he is BRAND new to EMS and running one of his first few calls by himself. I think it would have been much more upsetting if a person of his experience started ruling out spinal injuries right off the bat.

It is interesting though how quickly this work changes our attitudes. The OP sounds like he was genuinely excited to stop at this accident. I probably would have been pissed off, haha.

Dragoon, thank you. That puts it totally in the Bronx, but not the I-95, known in NYC as the Cross Bronx Expressway. The Bruckner connects to the Cross Bronx Expressway, however.
