Paraguay baby back from the dead

Posted Sat Aug 8, 2009 4:27pm AEST

A baby declared dead by doctors at a Paraguayan hospital was found to be alive when he was taken home for a wake.

The boy's father says he discovered his son was alive after he heard crying coming from the box in which the baby had been placed.

The baby was declared dead shortly after being born prematurely, weighing only half a kilo.

He is now back at the same hospital's intensive care unit.

Only one pound and he survived without medical support and was able to cry loud enough to be heard outside that box!? Wow. That's one tough baby. Incredible. I hope he survives and still has a good quality of life.

Paraguay baby loses fight to live

A baby who was found alive hours after being declared dead at a hospital in Paraguay has lost his fight for life.

Angel Salvador weighed only only 500g (17.6oz) when he was born four months prematurely last week.

The boy was declared dead by medical staff but discovered to be alive by his father when he was taken home for a funeral wake.

But medical staff said he had now died as his vital organs were not strong enough to survive.

The child was born at a hospital in the capital Asuncion.

Father Jose Alvarenga heard his son crying from the box in which he had been placed after he had first been declared dead.

The head of paediatric care said a doctor had not properly checked the infant's vital signs.

His death was confirmed on Monday.

Where did this dr get his medical degree? The back of a comic book?

Don't be insulting to back of comic book ads!

Actually, my condolences to the parents.
