Massachusetts Fail Update: State Denies Mayor's Request

NEW BEDFORD — The state Department of Public Health will not reopen its investigation into the actions taken by New Bedford paramedics during an emergency call last December despite a request from Mayor Scott W. Lang.

The initial state investigative report found Rosemary Nunes and Ivan Brody violated state protocols during a December emergency call by failing to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a baby in cardiac arrest and then inaccurately recording the details of that call.

"With respect to Brody and Nunes, the Department's investigation of these paramedics is complete, and I see no basis for reopening their cases," wrote Paul Dreyer, director of the state Bureau of Health Care Safety and Quality, in a letter to Lang.

The link is dead (I been out of town for a week).

Why did the mayor want it reopened? Did he want them cleared, or what?

Well, that doesn't make it a whole lot clearer. But it appears that the mayor is trying to justify the good guy getting "laid off" while keeping the lame players. I guess he's in a big hurry to get his unsupervised EMTs back on the street.

I know. I can't tell if the mayor was fishing for a harsher punishment, a lesser punishment, or something else entirely.
