I have been going back and forth between schools, people, and with myself as to what to do. I found out that CCSF has two options, either a straight Cert. for Paramedic, or where you can earn an Assoc. of Science for Paramedic studies. I called today, and finally go ahold of someone at CCSF (actual program head honcho for the Paramedic dept.) and found out that the Paramedic program is infact full, and not accepting applications for two years. thumbsdown.gif I knew this program was good, but damn!! lol Plus, she really strongly suggests, recommends, etc., to be a working EMT, or have worked as an EMT for atleast 6 months.

Sooooooo I am going to start much sooner then I expected, like in 3 weeks rather then 6 months. I will earn my Assoc. of Science degree here at the school I am closer to. Then next year during the summer, I will get my EMT-B taken care of, and finish up my degree. Then I can have another summer off school, or atleast time off, and work as a basic. Crossing fingers that by then, they will be open, and testing, and I can get into the Paramedic there, combine the two, and earn my Major in Paramedicine. thumbsup.gif To even get your foot into the door for CCSF you have to be almost invited, and have atleast two letters of recommendation to be allowed to test!

I am going to bust my ass to make this happen and work. Plus, she said that it will bump up my pay bracket! icecream.gif

And so, it has been decided..lol

Thank Trauma for the full classes. I truly hope it is a good program, but I doubt it's full for that reason alone. During class though, they almost always overfill to start off with as typically you lose between 1/2 to 1/4 of the class for various reasons. Take your time and we'll see ya on the flip side !

Lisa you go girl its always good to have a back up plan. Good luck with your classes and enjoy the ride! Keep checking back with the person at the paramedic program you want in you never know you might just get lucky and a spot be open if its meant to be that way it will be. If not just continue your plan and you will make it. If you need any help the forums are full of people that will help you.

Some will be very disappointed when they discover SF has no medical helicopters and many of the flight teams consist of RNs.

It is cheap education at the community colleges in California. At only around $25/semester credit, it would be silly to give the private tech schools $15,000 for 6 months of training.

Wow - uh yeah it is ! And people are wanting others to pay their tuition to go to EMT school in Cali ? WHAT ? There's the place to go !

Yeah, I'd say they'd be none too happy with that revelation. All well. It'll be cheap enough for them to move to get their RN.

All the other EMT / Paramedic options are wide open! This is the only school that I even know of as being 'full', let alone, with a waiting list.

Im not a huge fan of California either. But my husband adores it here, and all of his family is here. So, Im kinda stuck. But, on the flip side, he makes $46 an hour as a union floor layer, and that is not possible in any other state. So, there is good, and there is bad. But it could always be worse, and I will work with what I haveicecream.gif

LOL! You don't have to in most other states, because the cost of living is half that of NorCal.

Oh I know. We are not 'rich' by any means. We used to be very very comfortable back when I was working. But, my job was one of those lost about 2 years ago now, at the top of the fall of the economy. Its been tight, but doable. We have been incredibly lucky to be doing as well as we have been, esp. in Nor Cal..lol I have a neighbor that just found out on New Years eve that his job is gone, poof, no more. He came over earlier today just freaking out. Its so scary...
