That's a major oops. Been in many official motorcades and it can get pretty hairy. These things are scripted down to the minute and these agents take their jobs very seriously. I'm thinking that crew was absolutely grilled by the Secret Service- it was essentially a security breach, and they don't take too kindly to those things.

Honestly, I'm surprised these things don't happen more often. These motorcades rely on local PD to ensure all access points and cross roads are blocked as the motorcade passes. Mistakes happen, especially on long routes. I had one very long motorcade with the VP where several instances of people ended up on the road at the same time as the motorcade passed. They have chase cars assigned specifically to handle these intrusions and they quickly curb the offending vehicle.

That was a very terrible article. It gives no information. Where was the ambulance going? Lights and sirens? Was there a patient?

Given, an accident is an accident and vehicle operators should be aware of their surroundings, but if this this ambulance on in an emergent mode, it is pretty screwed up that the president gets priority over a patients "life".

But, the article being so poorly written, we have no info on what was going on.

I agree, the story was poorly written, but I have news for you- the presidential motorcade DOES have priority. The minute or so you may have to wait is really no big deal.

There's generally an ambulance in each motorcade, but this was probably a rig operating in the city and simply wasn't paying attention. With all the VIP's in DC, I would imagine motorcades are pretty common.

I know the motorcade has priority, but it's screwed up that it does.

My understanding is that the incident occurred prior to the motorcade being assembled for transit. That the SUV was on the way to a staging area. Is that what you guys get too?

Not a clue, all I know is what was said in that 4th grade students article.
