Especially when we're all equipped with multi-use BSI!

In all seriousness I think one of the best things a new manager can do is institute a monthly station meeting. Listen to what your employees have to say and find out what's working and what is not working. Just learning about your employees and identifying strengths and weaknesses within the group will allow you to develop a plan specific to the personalities and skill levels of that group. The greatest single difficulty is identifying areas requiring improvement. First you have to know what is working.

Within a limited budget some of the best incentives are things like first picks when making up the holiday schedule, or an unexpected paid afternoon off (not as disciplinary action of course).

Don't run around trying to catch someone screwing up. Instead go out and catch them doing it right. Then reward them.

Well update on the job. It appears that with no phone call I have received another resounding NO from the employment gods.

I have 29 NO's marked on a sheet and 0 yes's. Got turned down for another job today also.

Discouraged - You bet your Ass I am.

I am going to WalMart tomorrow and applying for a job. At least it will be a steady paycheck.

OK Reprieve got word that the guy doing the hiring did not get to talk to everyone he wanted to talk to so my chance is still out there.

Let's hope this is a win and not a loss.

I hope you the best. In the economic down turn we are really seeing the glut not shortage of Paramedics. There are fewer openings and many that are certified and have not been using their certification are now trying to land these jobs. So we will see even lower wages. Supply and demand. Once the economy turns around we will see many of the ones that came back leave again. Just a viscous circle.

You know as much as we do an easy "Thank you" sometimes goes a long way. We commonly go out with our supervisors to bars and sporting events. We play soft ball together and just generally hang out. If the crew has had a rough day and the calls pile up maby take a call or two for the crew insted of smothering them in paperwork. Little things like maby buying pizza every other week. On holidays the company always picks us up food for Christmas and Thanksgiviing and such. A basketball hoop or an xbox at the station may help too. We all have a job to do in EMS and the job will get done but sometimes wee need to have fun at work too. Its a very stressful job, you know that

Every single job search ever looks like

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO ... (insert highly variable number of NOs here)...NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO YES

don't take it personally and don't give up.
