TylerHastings Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 A texas Nurse was charged with misuse of official information while blowing the whistle on a "bad doc". I know in CA that there are laws to protect whistle blower. However I do not know what kind of laws there are in other states... So lets get a rip roarin discussion going on this and see what we can hash out for thoughts on this.... http://www.cbs7.com/news/details.asp?ID=17849 http://sanantonio.injuryboard.com/medical-malpractice/texas-whistleblower-nurse-stands-trial.aspx?googleid=278006
spenac Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 So what happens to the under educated and under represented Paramedic that sees and reports a doctor for wrong doing? The death penalty? This is stupid. So much for patients safety.
itku2er Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I just do not get this, Should we all just turn a blind eye to people that can cause harm to a patient? To me that is more of a crime than reporting the wrong doing.
TylerHastings Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 I agree mom but also how many people are going to be willing to blow the whistle after this especially if the prosecution wins this case....I mean all it takes is one blown whistle blower and that might be the end of it....
itku2er Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I am sure this will open a whole can of worms that shouldnt have been opened. I agree totally it will make people afraid to tell in fear of losing their liscense and their jobs and face jail time. What ever happened to do the right thing and honesty always being the right policy?
Lone Star Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I could have sworn tha there was a federal law that protected whistleblowers from 'retribution'...
TylerHastings Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 I thought that there was but so far I have only found information to specific states....
armymedic571 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Maybe a case where the ACLU would actually be useful......
itku2er Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Well being a nurse it scares me to think that this could happen. I have been involved in a case but I wasnt the one that blew the whistle on this Doctor. But its still scary to think that when I told what I knew it could have cost me my liscense and possible jail time. I been thinking really hard since I read this post and we discussed it in chat, is the truth worth losing everything you have worked for all those years?
TylerHastings Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 I really dont think so mom but also is someone else's life worth you not telling the truth about a medical "professional"
