I'm sure that not everyone who watched that show and knows very little about EMS thinks all chick medics are sluts ...

They're not? That's it! I'm dropping any plans to become a medic!:lol::lol::lol:

This thread and previous threads like on Trauma have really shown OUR lack of understanding of the entertainment industry, not their lack of understanding of us. Television and film have a long history of entertaining us by stretching truths and fictionalizing everyday situations. Law and Order does not accurately portray law enforcement or the practice of Law, yet SVU is one of the highest rated shows on television. I have yet to see police unions and organizations taking a stand against Law and Order for showing violations of constitutional rights, excessive force, etc. In fact, the actress who plays Olivia Benson has been honored by Law Enforcement after becoming involved in women's rights and rape crisis counseling. I do not see scientists at Fermilab blasting the SyFy channel for its grossly inaccurate take on particle physics. The American Medical Association is noticeably silent on the TV show House. House portrays physicians as drug addicts with little moral and ethical character, and is grossly inaccurate on how medicine is practiced. Yet somehow the physician community is intelligent enough to understand the entertainment value and realize the public is smarter than extrapolating what they see on TV into real life. The public does not fear doctors breaking into their houses to search for drugs and look through underwear drawers when they are admitted to the hospital. I enjoyed watching Trauma near the end of its last season and saw it slightly mature into a better series in its final few episodes. Like you, I do not preform emergency vascular surgery in the field, but after a long day at school or work, I like to come home and watch something that departs from reality for an hour.

Hmmm, I don't know. I just don't watch it anymore. I think I watched 2 full episodes and bits and pieces of others. I recall saying in a previous thread about "Trauma", I could perhaps forgive the bad medicine if the acting and storyline was better. I do not like any of the lead characters enough to follow them each week. The storylines are for the most part, predictable.

I understand the film and televisions job is to entertain. I think the reason I enjoy Law and Order so much is because I have no real involvement in the justice system. I don't know the daily in's and out's if you will of the legal profession. Therefore, I find it entertaining. Conversely, with Trauma, I do have a fairly good idea of how things should or should not be done. That is why I find it so difficult to watch. It is not entertaining to me, in fact I find it borderline painful to watch.

The wonderful thing about living here is I can choose whatever I want (or my partner and I can compromise on) to watch. I/we choose to not watch Trauma.

Formula:

Crime discovered, detectives arrive, sometimes making bad jokes. Investigation starts, persons interviewed, Lieutenant browbeats investigating detectives as to do their jobs, or grabs the interview for herself. Suspects defined, new connection determined, and suspect arrested and being given their Miranda Rights Warning as they get escorted to the awaiting patrol car as we go into the mid show commercial break.

Argument as to bail or remand, petition by defense lawyers suppressing potential evidence delivered, Assistant District Attorneys discuss or argue with the District Attorney as to how to proceed. Startling revelation discovered, sentence handed down by jury to judge, Assistant District Attorneys and the District Attorney either congratulate each other, commiserate, or discuss their differences of opinion on how the verdict will affect future cases.

Formula enough for "Law and Order"?

Ummm yeah. I got that part. What I mean is, it is not what I do therefore it is something different. If I was a Lawyer I might not watch Law and Order and find Trauma entertaining. Why do I want to watch something that I do everyday?

Executive producer Dario Scardapane is well aware of the comparisons.

"I think our DNA and 'Emergency's' DNA are very, very close, and I was at first really, really shocked by the paramedic backlash," Scardapane said yesterday. "And in a sick way, I kinda got into it to find a way to learn how to do the show better."

Which member? I recognize the name but can't attach it to a username. I was a great article I thought.

I also posted, but if others choose to do so as well there is a length limit. Perhaps I was warned about that and missed it, but it really, really pisses me off when I take time to create a halfway intelligent post only to find that posting removes my line breaks and cuts my post in half. I now have a have baked idiotic looking post on the page...I hate that.

Just sayin' that if you want to post, and I always do what Dust tells me, be aware of your post length and know that it will remove your paragraphs.

Would the last word be difference Dwayne?

I don't think your post was idiotic. I think you tried to portray the job for what it really is. The problem is, if they had a show about how EMS really was it would be as entertaining as watching paint dry.

There has to be some form of sensationalism for the show to sell, I get that. If they would just try and introduce some realism into the programme and dispose of some of the fluff, they might just make it. I agree with the post above yours though. The helo has to go!

Actually there was another two paragraphs, grin, which I was to lazy to recreate. They weren't vital as they only really made the point that though I don't think they created some significant sin by making the show, I did think it was silly to neuter the spirit from EMS and then be shocked that we didn't support it. Might in fact be best as I think I stated somewhere in the orginal post that the show seemed to be made for "Those easily aroused by cute chicks with saline enhanced cleavage and/or the viewer that is likely to clap when exposed to loud noises and/or shiny objects." :-) Yeah, probably best that that got left out.

Thanks for you reply. Not being the sharpest knife in the drawer it takes me a bit to create a post, and then when I find out it's been truncated I just wanna spit. But I'm better now... :-)
