Working Abroad

The subject kind of says it all. I want to work abroad as an EMT or Paramedic. Currently I have my EMTB, I don't know if that matters or what the qualifications are for being an EMT in other countries. I am specifically interested in working in Greece. Obviously there's a lot of logistics, passports, the language, all that and, thank you if you point this out, but I'm already aware. What I need is anyone who knows how or knows someone who worked as a paramedic abroad especially if that person worked in an EU country. My assumption is that EMT training in the EU would be governed internationally being that most EMT jobs are in the public sector, but I could be wrong. Anything you know would be extremely helpful. Thanks ahead of time.

There are many here more qualified to answer your questions than I am, but I'm curious. If you're an EMTB, why are you also seeking medic positions?

Biz,

There are no statutory agreements within the European Union when it comes reciprocation of qualifications amongst EU member states. Nor is there any reciprocation of US qualifications.

Greece is not going to be easy as it's currently in a very deep financial crisis (in fact it has just been shored up with a $110 billion loan from the other member states of the EU to stop it from efectively going bankrupt.

The little I know of Greek EMS is that BLS is largely voluntary and ALS is hospital-based.

Then you will already be aware that the visa is the most important thing you need, and without one, nothing else matters.

if you are not currently in possession of an EU passport, the visa application is going to take time, effort, and money. You may or may not fit the relevant criteria.

Job offers mean nothing if you are not allowed to work in the country legally. I suggest you start here.
