Give the article to your seeing eye dog, Ben. Notice that it says: "The Four New EMS Provider Levels Beginning 2014"

Since at least 34 States use the NREMT to replace State testing, it stands to reason that they will follow the NREMT's lead on titles. Additionally, the article references 2 separate 'Paramedic' levels, I'd have to say that there will be 2 levels of Paramedics.

I'm waiting until it happens to sit back and watch the slamming of the 'fake paramedics' by the 'real paramedics'.......:rolleyes:

There is only one level of medic. There are four total with EMR, EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic. I99s will have to do a transition to medic or get reduced in scope to AEMT

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a place with a short bridge program for Intermediate-85's to upgrade to I-99? Any advice you could offer would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Josh,

I just found out tonight that there IS a 'bridge class' from I-85 to I-95. Being in GA, I would have to attend classes in SC in order to get it, but I doubt that's too much of an issue.

I would check with the state OEMS (Office of EMS) in the state that requires the I-99 to see if they offer it as well.

The only 'drawback' I can see at this point is; if I go to SC to get that bridge class and pass it, I'll still only be able to work as an I-85 in GA.

It is interesting that everyone is assuming that the I/85 transitions into AEMT without any additional traniing. And I/99 transitions to Paramedic with training. It is left up to your State's current scope of practice.

In Iowa the I/85 has the ability to establish an IV, nothing more. They are having to transition up to AEMT with a course and then taking the NREMT exam at that level, both practical and written. Or downgrade to EMT.

I/99 has a lot of Paramedic level skills and is actually called EMT-Paramedic in Iowa. They can downgrade to AEMT with no courses or tests. Or they can upgrade to Paramedic with a course and then take the NREMT-Paramedic written test. Either way they are going to loss skills or have to go back to school and
