i am interested in becoming an emt, i want to start taking the emt course next semester, but i have a misdemeanor charge that is 7 years old for being under the influence of a controlled substance. i live in california. Does anybody know if this is going to hold me back from becoming certified? i would rather know now and not waste my time with the process than find out later.

Check with the state EMS office, then check with the county you live/work in, then ask the school you plan on attending in that order.

Asking anonymously on a world wide forum, I could say yes, next person say no, and ultimately you are still in the same position as when you started.

I commend you for researching before spending the money and time. But as AK said check with your state. Then even if you can get certified some companies may not hire you.
