Lone Star Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 I was sent this story in an email. I don't know how long the link will remain active, but it's something you REALLY should check out! Evil Copy Machines Hold Nasty Surprise
Jeepluv77 Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 That's kind of scary. I had no idea that copiers saved the images copied but I'd never really thought about it. Hopefully the story will make companies start addressing the matter.
HERBIE1 Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Can you imagine all the images of bare butts and other body parts they would find if they went into these memories? LOL
speedygodzilla Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Holy crap, I had no idea it stored an images of what I makes copies of. Well anymore the question is not if your idenity will be stolen but when?
Mateo_1387 Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 This will certainly make you think twice about coping documents at a gas station pay per copy machine, for sure !
HERBIE1 Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 I'm having trouble playing the link, but I assume this security issue would be with copiers that are networked and/or are able to directly send documents to a remote location or computer. A simple, stand alone copier shouldn't have this issue, or am I mistaken here?

A simple, stand alone copier shouldn't have this issue, or am I mistaken here? Close... The digital copiers have a hard drive that saves all of the images. The problem being when the copiers are sold, very few companies or resellers take the time to wipe the hard drive.
Lone Star Posted May 22, 2010 Author Posted May 22, 2010 Kind of makes you wonder about the personal 'all in one' copier/scanner/fax/printers now, doesn't it?
Kiwiology Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 (edited) Woah thats freaky as shit. I think I have found my new get rich quick scheme! ' Is blackmail still illegal? Edited May 23, 2010 by kiwimedic
HERBIE1 Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 I would equate this with buying a used computer. Your first step would be to reformat the hard drive and wipe out any possible bad stuff that may be on there. I never thought about a copier in the same manner, but it seems logical.
