Where can I obtain state license with completion of EMT course certification? (Non NR-EMT certification)

It means you must complete a course then take the Michigan exam. They probably only allow a year as well.

Until MI files the necessary papers to fully rid itself of the NREMT qualifications, then it is still an NREMT state.

One of the 'benefits' of holding National Registry credentials is for this purpose right here...to make reciprocity of licensure/certifications. It also verifies that you've met a certain 'standard' of education that is readily recognized.

When I went though the EMT course in '95, we were trained to NR standards, we just didn't have to hold the NREMT card to get a state license. You CAN apply for the NREMT exam IF your CEU's are current (including your CPR card).

It sounds like you're considering getting out of the grip of the 'Giant Mitten', so obtaining the NREMT credentials can only help you wherever you end up. I didn't have my NREMT-B when I came to GA, and therefore ended up having to start 'all over again' because I coulndn't apply for reciprocity, and my MI license ended up exipring.

Bottom line is this, it's better to just 'suck it up' and take the NREMT. EMT-B isn't rocket science, and you should have no problem passing the test. It can only help you in the end.

You can apply for a License in M.A. but its at the sole discression of the M.A. Department Of EMS depending on your circumstance if you took an out of state class since they dont recognize NR. If they say yes you will have to pay 150.00 and take the writen and practical tests but it take a long time to get all the paper work done if you dont hold a states providers license. Heres the link to MA department of EMS for more infomation.

Honestly if I were you I would retake a EMT class so you have fresh knowlage to properly be a EMT. Its in your best intrest to have NR it makes your life alot easyer.

I completed an EMT-Basic class in Michigan, but have not completed the National Registry. I currently do not have a license.

I know there are a few non National Registry states. Is there any state that would allow me to obtain a license with just a copy of my certification that I've completed the course?

Are there any non NR-EMT states that would allow me to obtain a license without having to take a state test?

Thanks guys!

In 2001, the State of Michigan began utilizing the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMTs) exam process to facilitate both the written and practical portions of the State Exam.

Why didn't you just take the NREMT (State test) when you finished the class like everybody else does?

Michigan is getting rid of NR altogether and a lot of companies already don't require it. You can apply for MI licensure by exam without NR, go to MDCH Personnel Licensure. Finding a job here, however, is another story. Still, you could get licensed here then look for reciprocity.

The State of Michigan has been talking about getting rid of the EMT-Specialist for about 20 years now. Since I see they're still licensing Specialists (EMT-I), I don't place much stock in the idea of them doing away with the NREMT testing any time in the near future.

I'm starting to smell something here, and I don't think it's the cod.......

Same question that Lone Star had as well. Why didn't you take the test with the rest of you class? If you were indeed at the top of your class you should have had no problem testing at the time. Also you should check with your instructor about this. We are only able to help you based on the information you are giving us. If you want my opinion here it is. Get ahold of your instructor and ask him what you should do. My advice would be to re-take the class and test with them.

Just a thought, but if someone from each US state, and someone from each Canadian Provence, could post something like what I posted on obtaining reciprocity in their respective regions, we'd at least have the ideas posted.
