An FDNY emergency medical technician accused of ignoring a dying pregnant woman while on a break last year was shot and killed outside a Manhattan nightclub early Sunday, police and FDNY officials said. Jason Green, 32 - who was suspended by the FDNY for 30 days for abandoning Au Bon Pain worker Eutisha Rennix in December - was shot in the face outside of Greenhouse club in Soho about 5 a.m., police said. He was off duty at the time.

Green, who joined the FDNY in November of 2003, had been refused entry into the popular nightspot, which is on Varick St. in the West Village, police said.

The gunman who killed Green fired from inside a car near the intersection of Vandam St. and Hudson St., about a block from the club, police said.

Green, of Jackson Heights, Queens, was pronounced dead at New York Downtown Hospital a short time later, police said. There were no arrests.

FDNY spokesman Jim Long confirmed that Green was the EMS dispatcher who was investigated in connection with the death of Rennix, 25, at Au Bon Pain in downtown Brooklyn on Dec. 9.

Green and follow EMT Melisa Jackson, 23, were eating at the coffee shop near FDNY headquarters when an employee asked them to call 911 for help.

Jackson called a fellow dispatcher to report the incident, but witnesses said she and Green did not try to help Rennix, who was six months pregnant.

Rennix and her premature baby died hours later.

An EMT who was accused of callously ignoring a dying, pregnant woman during his coffee break at an Au Bon Pain last year was shot and killed today after a dispute near a SoHo nightclub, police said.

Embattled EMT Jason Green, 32, and a male pal were trying to get into Greenhouse, a popular club on Varick Street, about 5 a.m. when bouncers turned them away because the friend wasn't properly dressed, officials said.

Minutes later, about a block away from the club, Green and his friend got into a dispute with an armed man who stepped out of a car at Vandam and Hudson streets and opened fire on them, police said.

Jason Green, one of two EMTs who allegedly ignored Eutisha Revee Rennix after she collapsed and died at the Brooklyn Au Bon Pain where she worked, was killed outside a nightclub today. The man in the vehicle got off at least two shots, striking Green hit twice in the torso. He later died at New York Downtown Hospital.

Green's friend was not injured and was being interviewed by cops.

Green of Jackson Heights had been a target of a criminal probe by the Brooklyn DA's Office because he and his girlfriend, Melisa Jackson, 23, a fellow EMT, allegedly refused to help Eutisha Rennix, 25, a dying, pregnant mom, during their coffee break at the eatery.

Rennix's still-grieving mother, Cynthia - stunned to learn of Green's death yesterday - offered kind words of support for his relatives.

"As a mother who has been through this kind of loss, I have to feel for his family," she said. "Even though what he did to my daughter was an injustice, I am sorry for him, and especially for his mother."

Eutisha's sister, Marva, added, "We thought what he did [to Eutisha] was inhuman. But he didn't deserve [being fatally shot]. ... You have to live your life right, because when you do wrong things, life has a way of bringing bad things back to you."

Eutisha's twin brother, Eudane, was scheduled to ship overseas with the military last night after getting a tattoo of his sister on his arm.

The criminal investigation into Green and Jackson's actions began after the pair allegedly ignoring the frantic pleas of Rennix's co-workers to help her when she suffered a seizure Dec. 9 at the Au Bon Pain shop in 1 Metrotech Center in Brooklyn.

The center is the site of the Fire Department's headquarters, where the pair of EMTs work as dispatchers.

Rennix, who had a 3-year-old son, died at Long Island College Hospital after the incident. Her premature baby was delivered at the hospital but also died two hours later.

Witnesses said Jackson called a fellow dispatcher to report the incident but noted that she and Green did nothing to help Rennix, who was six months pregnant.

Green and Jackson were suspended for a month without pay after Rennix died. They were reinstated, but the criminal investigation is pending.

Residents who live near Greenhouse said the club is a magnet for noise and violence.

"I hate to say it, but we've been waiting for something like this to happen," said Silvia Beam, president of the Vandam Street Block Association. "I've had numerous complaints filed with 311, and they never got back to us. It starts usually at 11 or 12 at night, and they don't leave until 1 in the afternoon the next day."

From Richard B, the EMT: It is my personal hope that this was not some kind of retaliation against EMT Green, for what transpired at the Au Bon Pain.

My condolences to the families involved in this tragic chain of events.

It's a sad state of affairs that someone from the general public has decided to take the law into thier own hands. Renegade justice and vigilantism has never worked, and this is another example of it.

I pray that the person responsible is brought to justice quickly, and is dealt the most severe punishment allowed by law.

Didn't the case of Bernhard Goetz teach the citizens of NYC anything?

Lone...you are making HUGE assumptions.

Two different articles stating different wounds...one says in face, the other says twice in torso.

No where does it state vigilante justice...you are drawing that conclusion.

Maybe, this was simply the way he lived his life, in areas known for violence, drugs, etc and maybe this was a totally random event which happened to involve him. A person who grows up and lives in these environments, thugs, streets, whatever...could very well have the same personality of one who would step over a patient on the ground in a coffee shop.

These two events quite possibly could not be related in the slightest, other than him missing the chance for his obituary to say Off Duty Hero EMT murdered last night...instead of the above articles which are negative.

Live hard, die hard.

You are correct sir, and I stand duly chastised.

As of this point, all the newspapers seem to agree that:

1) The allegation of "Failure to Act", on the part of the deceased EMT and his partner, with the Au Bon Pain case, is still being investigated, after both had been placed on a month long suspension without pay following the alleged incident,

2) For security reasons, a police car was parked in front of the home of the other EMT from the Au Bon Pain case,

3) Family members of the deceased woman made statements in support of the grieving family of the EMT.

What the newspapers don't seem to agree on is:

A) Was he shot in the face or torso?

B) Were he, and a friend, denied entry into the nightclub for being improperly attired, or because they were Black (club allegedly in a discrimination suit for denying Blacks to attend, unless accompanied by a White person)?

C) Was he in a "scuffle" with bouncers and/or other would be attendees?

D) If in a scuffle, was the shooter, who stepped from a car, a part of that scuffle, or was he targeted for a "hit" by someone connected to the family of the deceased woman from Au Bon Pain?

As of this time, the Manhattan and Brooklyn District Attorneys' Offices, the NYPD, and the FDNY, are all involved with the investigation of EMT Green's death.
