MedicAsh Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Wow! I cant believe I am into my last semester and a half of Medic. It sure has been a journey. Ok here is my question though. Dopamine vs Dobutamine. Correct me if I am wrong, but Dobutamine is used more so in CHF patients, and Dopamine is more so used in hypotensive or bradycardic patients correct? Can you use Dobutamine for the patients who are bradycardic and hypotensive too or no?
Bieber Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I'm not all that familiar with dobutamine, but to my understanding it's similar to dopamine in that it's a sympathomimetic as well. It does sound like, while it's also used for cardiogenic shock, that it's also used for CHF. So yeah, you should be able to use it for non-hypovolemic hypotensive patients, from what I understand. Don't know of any services that carry dobutamine, though.
