OK Doc, I will go read this book http://www.abebooks.com/American-College-Emergency-Physicians/author/3267275 then come into the ER and teach you how to treat patients. Students are entitled to have opinions, they just shouldnt voice them until they have some real world experience.

As usual, you miss the point. First, there is no reason to be such an asshole to a new member who may have something to contribute. Second, he wasn't talking about giving a treatment from a providers point of view. He was discussing the topic at hand and explaining his experience as a patient. I'm not sure how the experience isn't valid even if he is just a lowly student who should be bowing before the paramedic gods.

No, when I was a student the internet was not invented, but i would not have walked into my local ambulance station and questioned how the pros did something that I had never done.

No, you need to read Dr. Koop's Self Care Guide... That makes you a doctor. A patient told me that.. He read that, and now he's smarter than any doctor. Granted he was drunk.

Bieber - Don't fret over crochity. The dude has real issues and talks crap all of the time. It is very hard to see where he is coming from because of the massive chip on his shoulder.

We used to sniff ammonia inhalers for kicks when we were kids. It will ring your bell for sure.

Sometimes if I cant figure out if the patient is faking unconsciousness I will hold their arm high over their face and drop it. An unconscious patients hand will fall on his face. A conscious patient will drop the hand on his chest or above his head, not on his face. I’m sure there are exceptions but I have never seen it. An extreme measure is to touch their eyeball.
