  1. 1. Would you try to use this in the field?

    • Sure, it looks awesome.

    • It's too new- too many gaps, too much legal risk from mistranslation

    • People should learn to speak English if they're here, so irrelevant for my purposes

Holy shit. Science fiction isn't fiction anymore... this Iphone app will translate written text in real-time from Spanish to English and vice versa.

So, you've got that "no habla" in your truck and you really want to know if they've got any allergies? Pen and paper, and show it to them through the Iphone lens... and vice versa, have them write information down and you look at it through that lens...

Not a perfect system by any means, but a damn sight better than having to guess!

What do you guys think?

While it looks promising, the application is limited to the concious, alert patient or any family members that may be around.

I agree that if you're going to be living in a 'host country', you REALLY should try to assimilate as fully as you can. This includes learning the language of that host country!

Unfortunately, there are too many bleeding hearts to make that happen anytime soon, so until we become fluent in Spanish and the hundreds of different dialects of the X number of different languages....we're still going to be behind the eight ball on communication.....
