Greed21 Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 I just got hired as a new EMT-B passed the physical and all that good stuff. Just curious on what i should expect on my first week. What exactly do i do with the preceptors[i think thats what they are called]? I know that they are putting my right on as an EMT apparently they would normally start then in a chair van for new basics. The company is pretty large and they do mainly transports ALS and BLS and do back up 911 calls when the primary is overloaded or cant reach the area atm.
island emt Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Expect to do a lot of renal wrangling and raisin ranching. You will more than likely be teamed up with a senior crewdog to teach you the ropes and how to get from one facility to the next. Keep your ears open wide and don't get lost. Keep a small note pad handy in your pocket to take notes and directions.
DwayneEMTP Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Expect to have significant issues with management and partners if you are not able to present yourself and your ideas better than you've done above. Documentation is the life blood of EMS and you truly must learn to read and write with accuracy. Other than that, like Island said, you'll be paired with someone to get you going. It's impossible to tell you what to expect as you don't seem certain what position you'll be fulfilling. Mostly relax, pay attention and present yourself and your company in the best light possible at all times and you'll do fine. Good luck. Dwayne

To OP: Don't "expect" anything accept being on the very sharp portion of the learning curve, that said: expect the unexpected .
