I agree on the shoestring budget. I have often wondered how one of the largest ambulance services in the world can be run on one of the smallest budgets and the effects it has on the front line.

I am enjoying the rants on the blog link that was posted. Good to see ambos letting it all out in a blog instead of holding it all in, and this is something we can all relate to!

SJA WA recently got a large funding boost, the Health department is exercising more control, clinical governance measures have been instated, new protocols coming out, iPads as a form of ePCRs are arriving etc etc, not to mention the higher than average pay packet. The service seems to be moving forward at a high pace.

Heaps of other overseas medics here, seems like every second paramedic has a UK or South African accent!

By the way: Please do not transfer your experience from St.John's in other states to St.John's Ambulance Western Australia....

And note that in WA almost all (and for sure all newly hired) "paid paramedics" are used in the perth metro region...
