kndoug1 Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 So I am getting ready to move down to LA from Sacramento and I am being told that I have to take an expanded scope of practice course, but I am having trouble finding information on it. I have contacted an LA County EMS office, but they were extremely unhelpful. I have seen that there are a few people on here that have either moved down to LA County from other places or people who did their training down there and I was hoping someone could give me some information on this. I saw one online course, however I'm not sure if I should try to get an in class course or if online would even be sufficient. Can anyone tell me first of all, what this extended scope thing entails? Is it really just a few medications and tubes that I would be able to deal with or is there more? The information I found was really vague. Also, if anyone knows a good place to take this course, I would appreciate the information! Thanks!
japoneez Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 here's a link to approved facilities and also the study material for the test you'll have to take http://ems.lacounty.gov/Certification/ExpScopeClasses.pdf http://de.lbcc.edu/e-courses/webenhanced/syllawebs/emt/reno/Expanded-Scope.pdf i would recommend going to california institute of emergency medical training matthew goodman is a very good instructor
Bieber Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Being ornery, I think in LA their idea of an extended scope of practice is letting paramedics start IVs by standing order.
