At my high school in New Mexico, circa 1998-2001, when students in the athletic dept. had squabbles, a coach would have us put on an old pair of all-leather boxing gloves and duke it out. Those ole' gloves were heavy! EDIT: I can still hear Coach K..."Alright, you know the drill...hit the mat!" When we finished, tired as hell, it was "Ok...shake hands and squash it! And I don't wanna hear any more of this sissy crap or its bus drills for the lot of ya!" One day during the winter, myself along with almost every other 7th grade boy received swats (paddling) for getting into a massive snowball fight. Someone got hit in the eye pretty good (actually needed medical attention) and we all got punished for it. Its a shame that these and all the other situations originally posted happen all too often nowadays. Sometimes we can be pretty stupid. Of course, we are only human after all. P.S. If I'm not mistaken, the middle school did away with "swats" a year or two after my experience. I'm not sure about the H.S. and the "boxing". They've probably put a stop to that by now as well.
