I just got a job as a medic in my city and am wondering>>>>>>>

What your guys suggestions are on safety glasses?

- I want the best protection from bodily fluids

WHAT DO YOU GUYS USE OUT THERE?

I have kind of a preference for combination clear face shield/M95 masks, but I don't have the choice at work. I use what the FDNY supplies, "safety goggles" and a separate M95 mask.

I wear a pair of Gargoyles high impact in my RX, and carry M95 masks. . . In the systems I've worked, eye/resp pro hasn't been mandatory, but I make sure to carry it at all times and use them if there is any suspicion of airborne contagions or obvious risk due to fluids flying

If you are just looking for day to day regular call protection, I use the Oakley Flak Jacket XLJ. You can get tinted interchangable lenses for them too.

If you go to a motorcyle gear store, they have lots of clear lens glasses at cheaper prices too.

I wear a pair of safety glasses I got at the hardware store for like $2. They are for working with/cutting metal and wood. Good enough for me.

You are totally right on with this one. The glasses do not make the practitioner!

Name brands are strictly for coolness factor, I used hardware store eye protection for my first 5 yrs in EMS.

Here are the ones I used to buy in bulk, since the arms regularily break off.

Might be like my employer in that some of the provided PPE while functional is not comfortable and yes, lacks the "cool" factor. I replaced my issued work gloves and eye protection out of pocket with ones I liked better than the lowest bidder crap we had.

I have the cool sunglasses for when I am not working with a patient, ie driving/passenger, outside, whatever. I do not wear them when working with a patient as I see it is unprofessional.

Any cheap safety glasses will do , as long as they have good side protection too. I have a couple of pairs that I keep in my bag and in the back of the Ambulance. I always keep sunglasses for when I'm driving, I always make sure that they are up to BS (British Standard)and I never go for expensive ones.
