Can't Watch Porn at Work or Homr. When Can I? At the NYC Public Library...

According to this article. The First Amendment allows us to watch porn in the library. So let me use that excuse at work. Can you spell T-E-R-M-I-N-A-T-I-O-N?!?

I hate when people say it's my Right; it's protected by the US Constitution. Not if it can hurt someone else. The Bible has added New Testaments; so can the US Constitution.

Constitutionally protected rights don't always apply in the workplace.

Being free from being offended is not a Constitutionally protected right.

So which is worse- having the government check out the web sites the suspected terrorists visit at the library- ala the Patriot Act- or allowing some pervert to jerk-off to hard core porn, while sitting next to an 8 year old kid researching a topic for a school project?

Sorry to be so graphic, but the priorities of some people are seriously screwed up.

If people can only see this as an issue of "freedoms" and liberties, then they are seriously myopic.

I'm not sure how, not allowing people to watch Porn in the library; a violation of Freedom of Speech?

Its a violation of not letting people have access to Porn; which is not why people go to library.

Just like how the US Repealed the Prohibition of Alcohol, the President limited to 2 Terms or 10years in office, 18y/o the age to vote, DC getting House Representatives, and the Federal Govt collecting Income Tax were added after our Founding Fathers drew up the US Constitution. So, they can easily tweak the First Amendment to; XXVIII (Repeals I)

"In deference to the First Amendment protecting freedom of speech, the New York Public Library cannot prevent adult patrons from accessing adult content that is legal," said New York Public Library spokeswoman Angela Montefinise.

This pretty much sums it up. It's legal content. How can you legitimately prevent an adult from gaining access to legal material?

Now, from a "why don't you think of the children" point of view, I could see setting aside an adult only room or putting monitor filters over the screen so that only the person sitting directly in front could see the display. But I can see doing this for multiple reasons and not just for reasons limited to viewing porn.

Besides, when you start tweaking individual Constitutionally protected rights, who's to say something you like won't be next on the chopping block because somebody else didn't like it?

They have the screens installed and its my understanding that children are not supposed to be in the adult computer areas.

They are called rules. Make them and enforce them. If you want to surf porn in the privacy of your own home- knock yourself out. What about surfing porn on your lap top at the local Starbucks? It's also a public place.

I'm sorry, but I see nothing "unConstitutional" about being protective of children.

What about it? If you, as an adult, want to surf porn on your laptop at Starbucks then go for it.

What rules would you like to see enacted?

There comes a point when parents have to be parents. Sometimes, that requires explaining sex to your kids. Sometimes, that requires explaining that there are some really weird people out there. Sometimes, that requires explaining the difference between right and wrong. Why is it suddenly the library's responsibility to protect kids?

Its every adult's responsibility to make sure kids are safe. Without the kids our future as older adults, seniors, and old-old; seem very meek. We depend on kids to thrive because they are the future adults and the one's who'll take care of us, when we can no longer.
