Eh would be correct !

Ok a little EMT City history rule's of engagement, the term "bus" can only be used within the city limits and 5 boroughs of NYC, any Unauthorised use of this term other than in 1. Manhattan 2. Brooklyn 3. Queens 4. The Bronx 5. Staten Island is punishable with a minus 5 on the Dustdevil scale under the very clearly defined term whackerism .

The exception being an MCI Bus post-8540-0-44083600-1310702378_thumb.jp

Don't forget Nassau and Suffolk Counties also.

I stand corrected, thanks Doc.

Last time I was out there on the east coast NYC was thinking of calling themselves a city .. yup I am that old ...

Actually, there was that time in NYC, a Manhattan And Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority (MABSTOA, a division of the Transit Authority in NYC)bus driver suffered a heart attack, behind the wheel of a bus. After his passengers robbed him and left the bus, someone called 9-1-1.

The responding Paramedics started treatment and lines on him, literally on the floor of the bus, and a NYPD cop drove the bus, Paramedic crew continuing CPR and treatment on the way, to Bellevue Hospital.

The bus driver was pronounced DOA a few minutes after arrival at the hospital.

One of the Paramedics is now a Lieutenant.

Isn't a bus a large awkward vehicle to respond in ?

Sure, but it beats wasting an ambulance on BS runs.

Anyone who uses the term "bus" here, who is not with FDNY, should be banned. And kill themselves.

Anyone who stops a transport in-progress to whacker-jump another patient should also kill themselves.

I should probably kill myself as i have "whacker jumped" a patient when i was already loaded :|

But lifes to freaking good to do that :punk:

I can sympathize with the OP. It's frustrating. We all know the rules, and have to abide by them, but they can be frustrating none the less.

I was on a BS call several months ago when tones dropped for a choking victim. We could have been there in under two minutes, but our sister unit had to take it from several minutes out. They said the pt was barely viable by the time they got there. They couldn't get the sausage biscuit out of the guys airway in time to save him.

My patient? She couldn't sleep. That was her entire chief complaint. And she owns a car.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda... It still can frustrate.

tniuqs , in posting #20 on this string, you show the inside of one of the NYC Health and Hospital Corporation EMS MERVs (Mobile Emergency Room Vehicles). Can you tell us which one that one was? I recognize either MERV 1, 1A, or 4.

FYI, newer ones have replaced that design, and under FDNY EMS Command, now call them MIRVs (Major Incident Response Vehicles). Old or new, they could actively treat and transport 5 patients (laying down) at a time. Our regular ambulances (type 1s) are only capable of transporting 2, with active treatment by the tech or medic on one at a time.

Yeah, well that was Michael Jackson's chief complaint too.

Obviously, it should not be taken lightly.
