Had this happen to me last week

Posted

I didn't watch the vid, but I get your point. My off time on Saturday was 1800, we got a call at 1705 for a transfer from a hospital to a nursing home about 4 miles away. We showed up and made pt contact, only to find that we needed the bariatric cot. Another crew had the cot, so we had to wait for them to finish their call. Then, they had to bring us the cot and leave right away, so we had to wait for another unit to come out for a lift-assist. All said and done, we cleared the station at 2030, 2.5hrs after our scheduled off time.

Riley's rules of EMS do plainly state to not plan anything for the first several hours after scheduled time for vacation or days off, for just that reason.

At least you should remember one thing about overtime, especially on paid services: "Ka-ching, Ka-ching!"

Still missed a date and almost missed my PALS exam that morning

Runswithneedles, you mentioned Dallas. Are you, or were you, a part of the rescue/recovery effort following the Tornado(s) of April 3, 2012? Per the NYC 5 PM newscast coverage, looks nasty.

Nope. I prefer to stay in my little dust bowl.
