leirsyn Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Hello all, I am new to this forum. I received my NREMT certification and LA County license back in January with the intent to volunteer. I have been volunteering with two nonprofit EMT foundations so far and will continue to do so for many decades, and I am now deciding to look for a job because my family needs it. However, I did get into only one car accident in my 3 years of driving (and no tickets at all), and it basically disqualifies me from a "clean driving record." I dont have any excuses, it was my fault. The problem is, I am 19, so now I strongly doubt that any company will hire me. Do you guys know of any other routes besides EMD, or if there is a chance that I can get hired as an EMT. What other alternatives are there for me? Thank you very much for your time and input.
Kiwiology Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 (edited) California is so horrendously over populated with EMT and Paramedics it is not funny, its actually rather sad Whatever chance of being hired you had just evaporated into thin air because of your age and driving record Move (i.e. outside of CA) or find work doing something else Three of the people I've seen at LAX so far have been out of work EMT's one even had a "will do CPR for food" sign Edited June 15, 2012 by Kiwiology
leirsyn Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 its that bad in california? Literally my whole EMT class of 20 people found work within 3 weeks of their certification though... Wish I had done it with them instead of volunteering for a few months.
island emt Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Having an accident is not as big a detriment to getting hired as your being 19 yo. Most commercial insurance carriers require 21 years of age to be covered. As a basic EMT you would be hired to drive an ambulance or chair car for the most part. At 19 they cannot insure you
