time I saw CB radio used in emergency services as Primary Comm. in Arkansas was the 1980's, I was wondering what county in Arkansas your relatives live in.......Newton county is the only place I could fathom any emergency service using CB Radio,Please enlighten me...and Happy Holidays.

Lamar, in Johnson County. Just outside of Clarksville. The last time I saw anything about their FD though was about 11 years ago.

I am Familiar with Lamar and Johnson county.....I think the big City of Lamar Had a Bank and a c-store Not much more than that,Thanks for the note.

Yeah, I'm not sure it's even an incorporated town, lol. There is no town. No central intersection. Not even a Dairy Queen! They have schools out in the middle of nowhere. But that's what I love about it. It's beautiful!

You could get a one of the nicer EMS / Fire / Police radios that will hold quite a few frequencies, i would go digital on this one, and with this you probably would want to find the frequencies for those such CB frequencies that you are looking for, that way you can still use them just with your professional radio, i hope this answers your questions

Dustdevil; you will be happy to know the Lifeguards in Brevard County have gotten with the times, and are now on the 800 mhz system. Now, if they could only STAY on THEIR channel, NOT the Fire Depts.......

oh well, Lifeguards aint exactly the smartest............

Just my .02 cents, but why don't you just buy a good quality scanner and leave the radios for the people that need one. Icom makes very heavy duty scanners that basically cover everything out there (except cell phones), as do most of the major radio manufactures. The only "CB: vhf or UHF frequencies that are out there are GMRS (UHF-requires a license $80 for 5 years) and MURS (VHF-5 license free 2 w limited channels), the traditional "CB" (27 MHz) radios only get the weather and that is if you want to pay for the extra feature. *Side note, any radio programmable from a key pad (without special a special "key" or device) is not certified for part 90 (public safety/business) or part 95 (CB) use, and being caught using said equipment can cost the holder of the license either their license or lots of money.*
