How about 56,000 calls this year with only 8-24 hour units. You do the math. I think we have to be up there as far as calls per unit.

Bull

Your 4th per capita, 3rd is flint MI, 2nd Detroit, 1st Newark / Camden

Not Newark/Camden, just Newark.

120,000+ jobs last year. 13 BLS and 6 ALS, split up.

Days:

1 BLS 0630-1830

2 BLS 0700-1900

2 BLS 0800-2000

2 BLS 1200-2400

1 BLS 1400-0200

5 ALS 0700-1900

1 ALS 1200-2400

Nights:

2 BLS 1900-0700

2 BLS 2000-0800

4 ALS 1900-0700, only 2 city-wide. One covers Newark Airport and mutal aid into Elizabeth NJ, and the other covers East Orange and Orange.

So far my record is 18 in a night. Summers are known for 25 a night.

We're up to 39,000 calls county wide for the year. We have 27 24hr trucks and 3 12 hour units. Is that urban enough for you?

Philadelphia Fire EMS Medic 22 remains the busiest single medic unit in the united states, and has been for many years. Past annual statistics include 2002 - 8513 runs, 2001 - 9094 runs, and 2000 - 8783 runs, averaging 24 calls in 24 hours. More recent stats were unavailable at the time of this post. But, the Philadelphia Fire website says this is true, and we all know that no information on the internet is incorrect.

I think they were close to pushing 10,000 in 2005 and probaby just as busy in 06. If its not bad enough I think there were four or five other medic units that were in the 9,000's in Philly.

Urban System here... as a company, we cover roughly 40% of the county. We run over 100,000 calls a year. The other company handles the other 60%... I'd say somewhere around 300,000 calls a year city-wide, but that of course is just a guess.

We run approx 40 units daily each 12 hour shifts, plus special events.
