EMT175 Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I am the training officer for a rural ambulance service. We run shifts 24/7 and do a combination of transports ranging from interfacility, dialisis, and doctors' apointments to backing up the 911 system in each of our office locations. I am being given 1 hour a month to do some sort of training for both ALS and BLS folks. I'm looking for ideas what might be better suited for the transport side of things. Got the 911 side covered. As you can imagine we deal mostly with the elderly and disabled. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Just Plain Ruff Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Customer service skills. How to deal with difficult people eg nurses.
Resqmedic Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Are you talking scenarios or lecture? On the scenario side you could have a "What to do when things go wrong" lesson, Pump failure, vent failure, patient's condition deteriorates or changes, or a managing a critical transfer lesson. On the lecture side you could do the ever popular documentation and paper work lecture, what required transfer paperwork and signatures you need. I had a nurse come in one time and teach venous access for ports, PIC lines and central lines, that was a fun class (nurse was pretty cute too, make sure to always pick a cute nurse to do trainings, makes the class pay better attention) 1
brentoli Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 You can never go wrong with documentation. There's ways to not make it so dry and boring also. Do you do in house or contracted billing? If you use an ems billing company they may be willing to help you out on documentation classes. Sent from my Galaxy S III on Tapatalk!
EMT175 Posted December 13, 2012 Author Posted December 13, 2012 Well I've done documentation 2x per year, which is already on the docket for March. Seems like I can't preach that enough. But I like the ideas of lecture. I do bring nurses/dr's in for STEMI classes, vent, pumps and dialysis sessions. I guess I'm just trying to get idea's for new things and not the same ol, same ol. With only an hr per month, I'm so limited. Thank you for all your suggestions!
