Every major city I have lived in...DC included had those programs in place... And in every single one there was still gun violence. DC banned all guns...how well did that work out for the citizens in DC???

I'm still not sure how that would have helped the situation in this thread as I do not think all the information about this guy is out. I am a little hesitant to start throwing out solutions with scant evidence. How about we let the people morn, use this thread in the purpose it was intended and start a new one about solutions when we have more evidence?

This is a terrible tragedy perpetrated by an arsonist and murderer. Prayers and condolences to the families and co-workers.

People buying guns to defend themselves with ending up dead and the guns they bought legaly are killing other people. Still not time for better gun control?

The question was asked here. So just when is an appropriate time for the discussion on Gun control?? Now? Or in 3 days or in 3 months or when we as a collective society, which have the attention span and memory of a gnat, will forget this or at least put it in our forgotten memories.

There are people out there who don't even know what 9/11 represents. I say that the time for discussion (and CIVIL discussion) on gun control is directly after something like this happens or we will shove it under the carpet and wait for another shooting to wring our collective hands and say "if only we had discussed this after Sandy Hook, or upstate New York"

We pushed it under the rug when the nut job shot up the theater in colorado, I haven't heard any calls for gun control come out of that mass shooting until Sandy Hook came along.

Is it because Sandy Hook involved 6 year olds and those involved in the shooting in Colorado were mainly adults and it didn't happen around Christmas?

I don't ask these questions to be antagonistic.

I wonder if it wouldn't be better to consolidate the gun control discussion to the thread where it's currently being discussed and allow the original intent of this thread to remain intact?

There are so many senseless shootings on the media these days. It's pretty depressing to the point where I honestly don't want to watch the news anymore.

To add something I went to pick my daughter up from school early the following Monday of the sandy hook shooting for a doc's appointment and for the first time ever the school was locked. I had to page my way in and the resource officer opened the door for me. It required my driver's license to match the one on my daughters file. First time ever that has happened, I am surprised they even let me walk back to her classroom to get her without an escort or pat down. I hate the fact that everyone has to live in fear these days. Thank God that was the last day before winter break, I am starting to think private school is better.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
