Your first day will probably just be an introduction to the course. It would be best to email your instructor,, but from my experience no you will not need them your first day.

I would bring them just in case. You never know how much of a strict by the books person your instructor is. They may want you to have them so they can go over what they want you to do with your uniform and also what they want you to do with your books and all that.

Never go to a class with nothing. Better to be over burdened than with nothing at all. You'd look mighty silly being the only one without all your equipment for class. Plus having your stuff together sets the tone for the entire class and also for your career.

If I was the instructor which I have been in the past, I'd want you to bring it all and then I'll tell you what I want you to bring from here on out.

Ditto what the Capt said... ALWAYS bring the book to the first class. I've had instructors give an open book quiz the first day of class and I've had instructors tell us to return it to the bookstore.
