So next March will be my first recertification as an EMT-Basic. I have 44 of my 48 continuing education hours, but have not taken the 24-hour refresher course. In two weeks, however, I will be starting an 11-month paramedic program. Can the hours included in a paramedic course count towards the required 24 hours?

Good for you for continuing your education. Since this is such a diverse group, your best resource in this case is to contact your state or NREMT and ask them.

Best of luck!

My experience has been that it will not count. However, as has already been stated, you need to contact the certifying agency involved in your particular case and ask them directly. As they are the ones issuing the certification they will have a definitive answer for you. Based on the lack of information we have about you we're just guessing.

Have fun in paramedic school.
