Asking for some help

Hey gang

Just wanted to say hello and ask a favor of you all, My son has decided to quit nursing and go into EMS I have given him the site name and everything since I know there are some really smart people here that might be able to encourage and lead him in the right direction. Just be gentle I know that in EMS some times we are notorious for eating our young so just be gentle! Since I officially retired last July from EMS he doesn't ask me to help like he did in nursing. I am not sure what his screen name is yet but I do know he has made him an account. Thanks in advance

Why is EMS the wrong choice ? It is not your choice, it is his. Every career has its positives and negatives, and although I enjoyed working in a hospital environment, I would never want to be a Nurse. Call me a homophobe, but holding another man's penis is just not for me -- nor is wiping buts, or not being able to fart unless the "doctor" says I can. I like the autonomy and unpredictability of EMS. Do I wish it paid more and had better benefits ? Sure I do. But that is not all that is important in life.

How many nurses do you know that have been in the field for more than 5 years that LOVE their job ? Yes there are some, but I have found that the percentages of Nurses and Doctors who hate their job is about the same as it is for our industry.

As the old saying goes, "do what you love", and you will never "work" a day in your life. There is nothing worse than being stuck in a job (any job) that you hate. Teach him to live within his means (budget wise, whether he makes $10k/year or $ 200k/year) and let him do what he loves, regardless of what that job is.

Mikey I never said it was A WRONG CHOICE...I have and will support my boys in what ever choice they make. All I want is them to be happy in what ever they do. I turned him on to this page cause I respect the people here and I know that you all will guide him and keep him on the right path. I have made many friends here over the years when I was on here. I respect them and I know they will help him with the questions and thoughts he may have. Some things are easier coming from other people and not your mother!

Yes Riff Raff he is the one. I am not sure what his name is as of yet cause he is at his girlfriends house and hasn't came home for A week...

Yep retirement is wonderful.

After 42 + years of working odd schedules and getting woken up at odd times , along with far too many missed meals.

almost 8 months of getting a good nights sleep and eating real meals at semi regular times does wonders for the body & mind.
