Hello, need some input, a friend of mine wants to go to emt school then Medic after a year or two- problem is he has 2 misdemenors on his record.

Tresspassing and Public intoxication. What are your inputs on The State of Michigan granting him a EMT license. I told him the odds were not in his favor. ?

I cannot comment regarding another state, but hope it has similar to NY State.

Here, if you have a felony conviction, you have to advise the state Department of Health (DoH) when applying for initial or renewal of EMT (presuming same for Paramedic). The DoH then considerers each individual so advising on a case by case basis.

Wish your friend good luck from me.

I think that your question should be addressed directly to the State of Michigan.

I thought only Felonies precluded you from holding a professional license. I know several medics who have DWI convictions on their records and they are still holding valid paramedic licenses in missouri.

Your only definitive answer will be from the state of Michigan bureau of EMS, not from a EMS website.

But you can influence your friend to keep his nose clean from here on out so to speak. The less he has on his record the better.

Quote from the movie Tommy Boy:

Tommy: I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull's ass, but I'd rather take a butcher's word for it.

Always go to the source with such questions, I am sure the State EMS office will be happy to give you the correct/accurate information you need.
