Can I get some replies as to what states use Fentanyl in the pre-hospital settings for pain management? I am conducting a study & have found several research papers on the pre-hospital use of fentanyl for pain management, but would always like more feedback.

Thanks![/font:0b93a70f03]

Maine switched from Ms to fentanyl this past year for prehospital pain management. much nicer than Ms due to the lack of the iga histamine release.

What kind of info specifically are you looking for? Fentanyl is used quite a bit in the Pre-hospital world. Has been for years.

We started using it back in November in PA. We now have that as part of a pain protocol, so we can give it without calling.

We use it here in Austin. Currently STARFlight has it and the ground units will be getting it in April. Our clinical operating guidelines have it in there for musculoskeletal trauma and burns. We still use Morphine for cardiac pain management.

Thanks for the responses. A couple more questions:

1-How long has the state approved Fentanyl for ground ambulance use?

2-Links to regional protocols (or regional websites) would be great.

So far...I've been told the following states are approved for ground ambulance use:

-Maine

-Alaska

-Florida

-Pennsylvania (Approved for ground use in April)

-Texas

-Colorado

Thanks guys!

Out of curiosity, what is the purpose of your research? Give us a little more info and we may be able to help you track down more info................
