It is with great sadness that I pass on the news that prominent Houston surgeon and cardiothoracic pioneer Dr. Michael DeBakey has been hospitalized in Houston for an aneurysm. Details are just now being released, his condition and prognosis unknown. I'll post more when I know. Please keep Dr. DeBakey and his family in your thoughts and prayers.................

Dr. DeBakey is THE MAN when it comes to cardiology. He is the icon doctor of Methodist Hospital here in Houston, and along with Dr. Duke (Hermann Hospital) and a few others, he makes up a core group of elite doctors that have given us such advanced medicine. The Texas Medical Center, a grouping of hospitals including Hermann, St. Lukes, Methodist, Texas Children's, and M.D. Anderson all work together, and Dr. DeBakey has lead a few of these medical revolutions.

His recent work was on a "fake" mechanical heart.

Hey flight I've heard of him. I think i've transported a pt or 2 of his when I was doing clinicals. I've never heard anything but good about him here. Dr Duke is pretty awesome too. Hope things are ok with him. I'll say an extra prayer tonite.

No updates that I am aware of. I flew a patient down there last week and co-workers say he is doing better, but no specifics (HIPPA and all). I love flying trauma's to Hermann when Duke is on duty. He is an absoulute riot to work with. Plus we can go up to Life Flight Communications and say hi to his dog. Ugly thing but sweet as can be!!!!!!

So i've heard. There's one other Doc at Hermann that's supposed to be awesome and keeps his dog in his office. He's trauma surgeon I believe but I can't remember his name.

I can't think of his name, but he is the true "head" of the ER if I'm not mistaken.

Dr. Brent King is the director of the ER. I've never met his dog though.................
