Just looking for some ideas of what to use to mark the location of EMS Command or Rehab at an incident. I am looking for more of a locational markings not personnel markings (we have the vests and stuff).

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated

Portable neon sign?

Marker flags?

Collapsible tent? In bright hunter orange? With marker flags? Under a portable neon sign?

I've seen the flags used. I've seen the tent used (not in orange but other similarly bright, sometimes obnoxiously so, colors). This, in conjunction with a fire officer who is genuinely concerned about the ffs on scene directing them to rehab also does some good (much to my surprise).

Despite the poor attempt at humour...hope it helps.

Typically, I have seen a GREEN rotating or flashing light which indicates a command post, and likewise a flag in the area that says "CP" on it. Announcement of the location of the CP is also appropriate. Thats one of those things that needs to be dealt with in the pre-planning stage. I believe the green light thing is in NIMS, but I can't be sure. Should be something obvious.

We usually tape of an area with with neon tape. Different colours for different spots. We also have flags that slide over the antenna on the trucks with appropriate markings. So a yellow flag with command on the truck and yellow tape around the area.

If you are a separate service from the Fire Department, usually the ambulance is an excellent marker for where rehab is. Other ways that I have seen this done are working with a support agency and setting up the rehab area with them. Working with the incident commander is also key as to where rehab is and ensuring that the firefighters know where rehab is -- should be part of the overall incident command structure, the safety officer is directly responsible for ff's getting through the rehab station.
