From what I hear, it works quite well, and is excellent to detect a potentially dangerous rhythmns before a 12-lead.

Horribly inaccurate!! There is a reason why limb leads go on the limbs, this little quick look device is way off with the complexes. It is also very sensitive to artifact, put it in a bumpy ambulance or helicopter and you'll never be able to read it. Plus there is not a print capability. You are basically paying $250 for a fancy $5 stethoscope!!

While flight-lp raises a valid point (artifact readings) when used according to the directions supplied by the manufacturer, it is helpful to assist in the recognition of potentially dangerous rhythmns before a "full" EKG is done. As flight said, nothing beats a thorough assesment and excellent clincal skills.

P.S: The use of this scope is paticularly good if u are a BLS provider assisting ALS. However, each use requires the application of a gel, which can become rather annoying.

Even if you can recognize serious patterns.. what the heck are you going to do about it ? Why waste the time to hook them up to that device, then now attach to your monitor...

This device needs to be with all of those other devices "with good intention" but, fail to hit the common sense level.

Our service is remote, BLS only, ALS is 20-30 minutes away. Thorough assessment is always our goal. Would this scope help determine pain of cardiac origin from other types of pain? Decision could be relayed to ALS and their response adjusted accordingly. Impending cardiac event would prompt us to have AED, BVM, etc. at the ready. Aid in deciding whether to administer ASA or not? Just some thoughts. What do you think?

No ECG will tell you that someone is having pain from a cardiac source. The ECG is simply a visual representation of electrical activity, or for a better description a $12K voltmeter. It tells you that the electrical system is/is not working, that's all.

Your assessment will determine what is causing the pain, not an ECG that you might not be able to do anything about anyway.

As inaccurate as this "toy" is, I have to wonder why you would want to base your treatment on what it is telling you anyway. Even the "lethal" rhythms that it is supposed to help you find need to have more than this applied in order to fix them. Save your money for something that might actually help you, because this really won't.

The reason you describe does not make sense.. so you can relay for ALS. If it is chest pain (cardiac in nature) ALS should be dispatched. If you can read ECG, then you should be ALS already.

Take the money and invest in education.

This toy will be off the market by the time the ink on the warranty is dry... just like the Amway rescue choking suction device.
