Fire generally stabilizes the vehicle, chops it up, and then EMS does the actual extrication..If necessary, a paramedic will get in the vehicle with the patient, but this doesn't happen all that often in my experience.

Hose draggers around here are pretty proud of the extrication stuff..even have competitions with it by rolling back roofs and such. The specifics are beyond my concern as I could care less, as long as they can do it quickly and safely. Kinda like seeing who can roll hose the fastest.. :?: :jerk:

[/font:e94616b8ed] On the most part in New Jersey the fire side does the vehicle extrication. But there are a few that the BLS provider for the municipality does do rescue work. Probably one of the biggest and impressive I know of in the state would be UMDNJ-Newark does the heavy rescue work for the area. They are career, but they are BLS and ALS providers for the city not the fire department.

UMDNJ-EMS has the only hospital-based Rescue in the nation. We do all sorts of rescue, as long as it doesn't involved SCBA. We are employed by the State of NJ: The state runs the University, the University runs the Hospital, the Hospital runs EMS.
