Oh yes !!!! There are several people who have extreme allergies to some H[sub:cb691bfab6]2[/sub:cb691bfab6] blockers. A lot of time they are allergic to the Red Dye they used as well...

That and be careful with other H[sub:8dc535f447]2[/sub:8dc535f447] blockers..check with your physician and he might place you on others like Pepcid, Zantac, and if it is for allergies.. low dose steroids.

Good Luck,

Definitely not uncommon at all. Have run into that multiple times over the years.

Sure baffled me the first time I saw it, but you have to think pharmacologically. It is not necessarily the action of a drug that the patient is sensitive to. It is the components of the drug. Consequently, you can easily be allergic to an allergy medicine depending upon it's chemical makeup, as well as sometimes specific pharmacological actions.

Seen it once while working in the ER. Sure threw me for a loop. We also had a lady come in saying that she is allergic to insulin and having a reaction. Funny thing was, she had never taken any. She was CCFCCP.

Kind of like how some people are "allergic" to epinepherine... when it's actually the material used to sustain/preserve/suspend the medication.

There is a dye free benadryl available, in the children's liquid form. I use it for sleep occasionally, and I noticed my wife bought the wrong "color". Still works the same, but it has an awful taste, almost like they put bitrex in it.

I've got family by marriage that can't take benadryl because it's a soy based medication and they are allergic to soy.
